Challenges

Physical therapists have become one of the important team members in the medical and health care systems across the whole range of age. With the global changes in the environment such as increases in aging population, low fertility, high incidence of non-communicable diseases (such as cancers, metabolic diseases, and cardiovascular diseases), physical inactivity, and uneven distribution of medical resources, has created a huge impact to medical and health care systems. The needs for PT services are increased in both quantity and quality. The spectrum of PT practice have expended from rehabilitation of disability in early years, to treatment of dysfunction, and now further to disease prevention and health promotion. Physical therapists need to dedicate in the aspects of education, clinical practice and research to meet the requirements of these modern needs.
